Beginning this research simulation has really caused me to think about what issues I would like to learn more about when it comes to early childhood. One issue that has caught my interest is the area of learning gaps. This area is of interest to me personally because the ethnic group that I am a part of is always affected by learning gaps. I want to know what I can do as a professional to close the learning gaps and what is being done to close the gaps.
The process of simulation also made me think about subtopic questions that might assist me in gaining some insight to closing learning gaps. I am interested in knowing that if work that is already in process is really assisting with closing learning gaps. A subtopic question that I have chosen to look into further is “How have Head Start and Early Head Start affected the gaps? The federal government has been supporting this organization for several years and it would be interesting to read the research that has already been done to support learning gaps. After all the word Head Start implies giving children time to get a head, so the gaps should be smaller.
One of the resources that I will use will be the National Head Start web site to assist me in gaining information around the findings of Head Start. I welcome any other resources that any of you may have in regards to finding out what impact Head Start has had on learning gaps. Happy Researching!
