The website Center of the Developing Child Harvard University is full of a wealth of knowledge and learning opportunities. Though this organization has just been existence sense 2006, it has established a very strong mission statement that supports the importance of quality early learning experiences. Center of the Developing Childs mission in brief is to see that opportunities are provided for children early in life by showing its advantage through science. This mission is accomplished by the following points.
· Building multidisciplinary teams that explore the early roots of life long impairments through science.
· Providing ways to prevent disparities
· Finding ways to implement science-based policies in regards to early childhood along with assisting present and future leaders to make science-based policies (Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University 2011).
The goal of this organization is to provide positive outcomes for children globally, by making available science based resources. A powerful statement made in one of the topics called Global Child Development was that science tells us that the foundations for a successful adulthood are established early in life. Early childhood professionals and theorist have supported this idea for years, but with the evidence of scientific theorist, the inequities of young children can be addressed. Scientist and early childhood professionals walking hand in hand to show the powers that be the importance of developing policies that assist in closing the gap between children of different socio-economical backgrounds.

ReplyDeleteIt's great that the Center of the Developing Child has a focus on providing scientific research and resources about child development. Like you said, early childhood professionals and theorists have known information and acted upon it, but with research to support it, it becomes more valid and hopefully will cause others (such as policy makers) to take notice. This organization seems like a good resource and example of how the scientific field is supporting the early childhood education field. Thanks for sharing the information you found!
