World Forum

When the tsunami first happened it was world wide news.  We were hearing about it all the time, but as time progressed we stopped hearing about it so much.  300,000 people passed away and 500,000 were left homeless.  I just listened to a podcast from a man by the name of Meridas Eka Yora who started 3 orphanages after the tsunami.  These orphanages were boarding schools because many children would have no where to go after school.  At these school Meridas mentioned that they have tried to set the boarding schools up like little families allowing siblings to stay together.  Many of the older siblings were taking care of their younger siblings.  In the beginning the founder mentioned that they hired lots of psychologist to help the children, but the children tended to connect better with the teachers and many of the teachers would sleep next to the children at night.  As I write this my heart still breaks for the children.  I wonder how they are doing now.
